Overview

The Statewide Capacity Collaborative (SCC) serves as a hub for a core group of grantmakers in Washington to align, collaborate and strategize on how to best strengthen and support the capacity of nonprofits and the statewide nonprofit ecosystem.

We envision a healthy and resilient nonprofit sector where individual nonprofits thrive, communities work collectively to address their needs and the sector is seen as a force for change.

In early 2010, the SCC was formed under the belief that a healthy nonprofit sector is vital to the quality of our communities. Given the lingering effects of the recession, the SCC both felt an urgency and saw an opportunity for grantmakers to increase their commitment, leadership and action to work collectively to strengthen the capacity of the nonprofit sector.

To date we’ve made aligned investments of over $6 million across the state, as well as $1 million through a pooled fund. The SCC focuses in three separate but complementary areas:

  1. efforts that elevate the profile of the sector through advocacy and public policy
  2. strategies that effectively deliver capacity building knowledge to nonprofits and which broaden the availability of tools and resources for nonprofits, and
  3. leadership development at local, regional and statewide levels.

Current members of the SCC include:
• Ballmer Group
• Bernier McCaw Foundation
• Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
• Cedarmere Foundation
• Medina Foundation
• Satterberg Foundation
• Sherwood Trust
• Seattle Foundation
Social Venture Partners serves as the convenor of the SCC.
